Classification Systems – Do They Have Staying Power?

Classification systems do they last?

People have misunderstood the Family Knowledge Process as being a software package to manage your family mementos. I’m not worried by the mistake as it allows me to explain the benefits behind Soul Assets and Digital Dreaming.

Soul Assets is based on a grouping and classification scheme and not just a software application.

The benefit of a classification scheme is that it’s an umbrella that sits above technology and physical items. The easiest example to support understanding is the Dewey Decimal System used in libraries around the world. It’s an example of a classification system that’s been applied to physical books and software programs.

The Dewey Classification  System was in vented by Melvil Dewey in 1876 and the scheme has been revised and expanded for over two hundred years. I came across this interesting article posing the question will it survive the information age and be replaced? If it does get replaced, you can be sure it will be replaced with another classification system.

This brings me to my last thought for this post. Families around the world need a knowledge process to help them classify and keep their family knowledge. Soul Assets is an education leader bringing the power of a classification system into your own family group.

Journal your knowledge today – to know family is to love family.

Will 21st Century Libraries Use the Dewey Decimal System?

Classifications Systems as old as stone?

Classification Systems – How long have they been around?
